Class Descriptions and Policies

*Each genre is demonstrated in multiple levels ranging from level 1 (beg) to 5 (adv), with classes meeting on a weekly basis.

*The Fall and Spring Sessions are completed with a Holiday Recital and a Spring Recital respectively.

*Classes cancelled due to weather will not be made up.

*Missed classes can be made up in a similar class sometime during the session that they were missed.

*50% of tuition is due to secure a spot in a class.

*3 students must be enrolled to hold a class. If a class falls below 3 students, the Artistic Director can continue the class. The class length will be reduced, but tuition will remain the same.

Ballet

Ballet is the basis for all genres of dance and is highly recommended for all dancers. It is the foundation of dance. Red River Dance & Performing Company follows a combination of the French and Cecchetti methods and techniques.

Pointe

Dancing en pointe is a form of ballet in which the dancer balances on the tips of the toes with the assistance of pointe shoes. Students must receive Studio Director approval to enroll in pointe class, as it can be harmful if the dancer’s feet and ankles are not fully grown or strengthened properly. 

Ballet/Tap

The main focus of Ballet/Tap classes is to combine music, movement, and the imagination to introduce children to the beauty of music and the love of dance. Dancers will do half the class in ballet shoes and half in tap shoes.

Tap

Tap is a form of dance characterized by a tapping sound created from metal plates attached to both the ball and heel of the dancer’s shoe.Precision and speed of sounds increases in difficulty at each level.

Tappercise

Tap dance + Aerobic exercise = Tappercise! This class combines basic tap movements with rapid, varying musical rhythms to maintain aerobic activity and challenge the mind of the adult dancer. Tappercise Wednesday offers a level I and a level II class. Thursday has a class for people with a few years of tap under their belts. Tappercise starts in October and goes through mid-March.

Ballet/Jazz

Designed for the beginning dancer, Ballet/Jazz classes offer a combination of classical ballet and popular jazz dance, making the class a great foundation for all forms of dance.

Jazz

Jazz dance combines classical and contemporary styles of choreography. It is resembled by popular music combined with quick movements, strength, flexibility, and fluidity. Additional study in ballet is highly recommended for advanced levels of jazz dance.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop dancing is characterized by fast, high-energy moves of present day hip hop and pop culture. Basic styles and up to date moves are incorporated into upbeat routines to popular music.

Ballroom/Social Dance
This is available by appointment. Arrange private lessons or bring your friends and create a class! Learn to dance like the stars! Ballroom dance includes a variety of dances performed in pairs, either socially or in competition. American dances include the Fox Trot, Waltz, Tango, and Swing. The Latin styles include Mambo, Cha Cha, Rhumba, and Salsa. Great for getting ready for a wedding, dance or just for fun and fitness.

Lyrical

Incorporating ballet, jazz, and modern styles of dance, lyrical dancing puts emphasis on the freedom of expression through movement and interpretation of music. Additional study in ballet is highly recommended for advanced levels of lyrical dance, since ballet-based technique is an essential component to this advanced style of dance.

Junior, Apprentice, and Senior Companies

Company members are chosen annually through an audition process held toward the beginning of Fall Session classes. The companies attend a dance convention each year along with competing in regional and national competitions.

Pilates Ballet

This classes mix the basics of ballet with the basics of Pilates. The instructor will teach different patterns that integrate certain Pilates movements with ballet to strengthen the areas that will strengthen the dancer body as well as work out the non-dancer body.

Pilates Yoga

This class combines key positions and movements of both Pilates and Yoga to stretch out and work the body and mind.

Moving/Dancing Yoga and Pilates and Movement

This class will teach a few different patterns connecting yoga or Pilates positions (depending on the class) into a non-stop dance that will work out the body, challenge the mind and relax the spirit.

Stretch & Skills

This class is now broken up by level to assist each dancer that should take this class. This class will assist dancers in excelling at turns, leaps along with working on flexibility. It is definitely recommended to take this class along with the core classes of Ballet and Jazz.

Latin Aeorbics

This class focuses on an aerobic workout with a little Latin, salsa flair. Fun, movement and calorie burning definitely happen here.

Choreography

This class analyzes music and helps dancers understand the layers of music, the counts of music and the accents used in all varieties of music. After analyzing music, the dancer will study the variety of ways choreographers use patterns, levels, sides of the stage and direction of the stage for choreography and why it is done.  The third part of the class is to learn dances and create their own dances based on the above information to make them not only better choreographers, but better and more informed dancers.

PreCompany

PreCompany is a class that is paid for as a regular class and scheduled as a regular class. Students go through an “audition” process on the first day of class but everyone is accepted. This class gives interested younger students/new parents a glimpse of what it is like to compete and be a Performing Company member. PreCompany competes at 1-2 Fargo competitions with 1-2 numbers. Ages eligible are 6-10 years old.
